Accurate and reliable thickness measurement for ship structures, tanks, hulls and other critical components.
TuzlaTeknik provides professional Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) services to assess material condition, identify corrosion and detect structural thickness loss without damaging the inspected component.
What is Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement?
Ultrasonic Thickness Measurement (UTM) is a non-destructive testing method used to determine the thickness of metallic and other suitable materials by using high-frequency ultrasonic waves.
During the inspection, an ultrasonic transducer is placed on the surface of the material. The equipment sends ultrasonic waves through the material and measures the time required for the signal to travel through the material and return from the opposite surface. This allows the remaining material thickness to be accurately determined.
UTM is widely used in the maritime industry to assess the condition of hull structures, decks, bulkheads, tanks, pipelines and other critical components.

What Can UTM Detect?
UTM measurements can help identify areas where material thickness has been reduced due to corrosion, erosion or other forms of degradation. By comparing measured thickness values with required or previous measurements, areas requiring further evaluation or maintenance can be identified.
Corrosion
Detection of thickness reduction caused by corrosion.
ErosionIdentification of material loss caused by erosive conditions.
Thickness LossMeasurement and documentation of remaining material thickness.
Our UTM Inspection Process
01 — Inspection Planning
Scope, vessel and inspection requirements are reviewed before the measurement work begins.
02 — Measurement Preparation
Inspection areas are identified, cleaned and prepared for accurate ultrasonic measurements.
03 — Ultrasonic Measurement
Thickness measurements are taken using suitable ultrasonic equipment and appropriate measurement techniques.
04 — Data Evaluation
Recorded measurements are reviewed and evaluated to identify areas of significant thickness reduction.
05 — Technical Reporting
Measurement results are documented in a structured technical report for further technical evaluation and maintenance planning.
Benefits of UTM
UTM provides a practical and non-destructive method for assessing the remaining thickness of ship structures and other critical components. The results can support condition assessment, maintenance planning and further technical evaluation.
Non-Destructive Inspection
Inspection can be performed without damaging the inspected structure.
Accurate Measurements
Provides reliable measurements of remaining material thickness.
Early Detection
Helps identify areas of thickness loss before further deterioration occurs.
Efficient Inspection
Allows targeted measurements of critical areas without extensive dismantling.
Condition Monitoring
Current measurements can be compared with previous inspection data to monitor changes over time.
Technical Evaluation
Provides measurement data that can support maintenance planning and vessel condition assessment.
Technical Reporting
Following the inspection, measurement results are compiled and presented in a structured technical report. The report provides recorded thickness measurements and relevant inspection information to support further technical evaluation, maintenance planning and vessel condition assessment.
